Fasching in Pfaffenheim in Upper Bavaria: The “Ilmtal Asylum Defense” Tank (February 7, 2016)

Abstract

As a kind of “fifth season,” carnival or Fasching has enormous significance in many parts of Germany, with festivities varying from region to region. While most carnival floats are festive, some address current political issues. In 2016, an “Ilmtal Asylum Defense” tank took part in a Fasching parade in Pfaffenheim in Upper Bavaria. The tank aimed to suggest that asylum seekers could be stopped by military means if necessary.
