Ai Weiwei, Human Flow (2017)

Abstract

Ai Weiwei's documentary Human Flow (2017) was made at a time when the Chinese artist and director had his studio and residence in exile in Berlin. The footage of current global refugee movements, much of it made with the help of drones and iPhones, comes from over twenty countries. In 2019, Weiwei left Germany for the UK: German society was not only too unfriendly for him, but also too xenophobic and authoritarian.
