Jerichow (2008)

Abstract

Jerichow (2008) portrays the explosive love triangle between military veteran Thomas (Benno Führmann), who has returned from deployment in Afghanistan, his employer Ali Özkan (Hilmi Sözer) and his wife Laura (Nina Hoss). In his remake of the classic film noir The Postman Always Rings Twice (1946 and 1981), Berlin School star director Christian Petzold stages business and violence in the East German provinces. Petzold belonged to Harun Farocki's circle along with his wife, documentary filmmaker Aysun Bademsoy (Zuhaus unter Fremden, 1979); Mädchen am Ball, 1995; Spuren - Die Opfer des NSU, 2019). Führmann and Sözer already appeared together in front of the camera in Lars Becker's Kanak Attack (2000), the film adaptation of Feridun Zaimoğlu's novel Abschaum - Die wahre Geschichte von Ertan Ongun (1997).
