Radio: Family with Headphones (1925)

Abstract

In this photograph, family members listen to the radio “together” while wearing individual headphones. Isolated from each other, the listeners were unable to engage in a running conversation about the broadcast. It was only later that built-in speakers replaced headphones and thus enabled a shared listening experience.
