Almanya – Willkommen in Deutschland (2011)

Abstract

In the anniversary year “50 years of German-Turkish recruitment,” the film Almanya – Willkommen in Deutschland (2011) by sisters Yasemin and Nesrin Şamdereli took a fresh look at the German immigration society. From the perspective of a Turkish-German family, migration history is told as a tragicomic fairy tale. Newly naturalized Hüseyin Yılmaz takes his six-year-old grandson Cenk and the rest of the family on a road trip to Turkey—and thus on a journey into German postwar history.
